WORKING METHOD
The residency is organised around sustained exchange rather than one-way instruction. Participants bring practices and projects already situated within particular histories, techniques, and questions. The task of the group is to establish the conditions under which those projects can be examined with rigour, generosity, and conceptual precision.
Presentation and discussion may draw on scores, sketches, recordings, performances, installations, software, diagrams, essays, lectures, portfolios, documentation, or hybrid forms. No single medium is privileged as the default form of compositional evidence. Materials are considered in relation to the questions they raise and the forms of understanding they make possible.
Participants will be encouraged to define their terms, identify the assumptions informing their decisions, clarify the relation between conceptual propositions and compositional procedures, and distinguish artistic aims from the means through which those aims are pursued. Discussion will attend not only to what a project seeks to communicate, but also to how its premises are embodied in its materials, processes, forms, modes of presentation, and conditions of reception.
Critical engagement is understood as a constructive practice. Feedback should neither simply affirm a project nor measure it against an external stylistic norm. It should help reveal the consequences of its choices, identify tensions between claims and procedures, locate unexamined assumptions, and open viable paths for development. Participants are expected to respond to others with the same seriousness they expect for their own work.
The inquiry is intentionally plural. Its purpose is not to establish stylistic consensus, prescribe adherence to a particular philosophical tradition, or subordinate artistic practice to theoretical explanation. Productive disagreement, methodological difference, and conceptual tension are necessary conditions of collective research. The programme seeks a discourse in which incompatible positions can be stated clearly, examined fairly, and transformed through encounter.
